On The North Shore
"New Jersey and You: Perfect Together." -- Thomas H. Kean, Former Governor of New Jersey
"What did you have to drink tonight?" -- Officer Jeffrey Dellarusso, New Jersey State Trooper
Well, I’m gonna make a beeline
‘Cause I need to soothe my poor mind.
Just a ten minute stroll along 181.
A place with plenty of distraction
But where you can choose your own reaction.
With no concern at all about making the cut
Like a dim and smiling mutt.
‘Cause it’s a mighty fine Sunday.
An illuminating fun day.
And it only takes one day on the north shore.
Now that my marriage was just a put-on,
There are few things I can count on:
The smell of roasted coffee and fresh bait from the shop.
And since the DEP has weakened
Up its laws, the lake has deepened.
Got my rudder all fixed up.
Now, I’m all ready to ride
With the wind at my side.
‘Cause it’s a mighty fine Sunday.
And that can only mean “fun day.”
And it only takes one day on the north shore.
There’ll be three or four ale rounds
With my buddies from the next town.
You can always find common ground on the north shore.
Don’t decline
The things you know will make you unwind.
Never depend
On a good chance comin’ up again.
I watch Becky with her nieces.
Lately, I’ve heard she’s been in pieces
Over some guy who for ten years had strung her along.
My friends say I should consider
Goin’ on up to her; maybe kid her
And try everything I can just to let her know
That it’s time to let go.
For it’s a mighty fine Sunday.
You know, I might not be in Monday.
‘Cause it only takes one day on the north shore.
Gonna bask out in the moonlight
To forget about the twilight.
Get your unexpected delights on the north shore
On the north shore.
On the north shore.
On the north shore.
